Amazon Won’t Let Me Review Anything

And I Blame the Scammers

Have you ever bought something on Amazon, actually used it, and then tried to leave a review?

Only to discover that Amazon won't let you?

Yep. That's where I am right now.

I bought something. I used it. I had an opinion about it.

I wanted to share that opinion with other customers.

Apparently, that's becoming more complicated.

And honestly?

I'm blaming the scammers.

I Just Want to Leave an Honest Amazon Review

I'm not trying to get a free product.

I'm not trying to get a refund.

I'm not being paid to say something nice.

I'm not part of some review club.

I simply bought something with my own money, used it, and wanted to tell other people what I thought.

Isn't that what Amazon reviews are supposed to be about?

Amazon‘s review policies are designed to ensure that reviews reflect genuine customer experiences. The company prohibits things such as compensated reviews, incentivized reviews and other attempts to manipulate ratings.

And I completely understand why.

Amazon Has a Fake Review Problem

Let's be honest.

Fake reviews are a problem.

There are people and businesses that have tried to manipulate Amazon‘s review system by offering incentives for positive reviews, paying for reviews, requesting reviews be changed, or otherwise influencing what customers say.

Amazon has spent years trying to combat this.

The company says it uses automated systems and machine learning to identify suspicious review activity and has taken legal action against people involved in review manipulation.

So I'm not complaining about Amazon trying to stop fake reviews.

Quite the opposite.

Stop the scammers.

Stop the fake five-star reviews.

Stop the fake one-star reviews.

Stop sellers from manipulating ratings.

Stop competitors from sabotaging products.

I'm all for it.

But…

What Happens When Amazon Blocks the Wrong People?

Here's where things get frustrating.

When a company uses automated systems to identify suspicious activity, there's always a possibility that legitimate activity gets caught up in the process.

And that's exactly what makes this situation so annoying.

I'm not trying to manipulate anything.

I'm just trying to leave a review.

Yet here I am wondering:

Why can't I review something I actually purchased?

That's the catch-22.

The people abusing the system create the problem.

But legitimate customers can end up dealing with the consequences.

Reviews Matter

Whether we like it or not, Amazon reviews influence what people buy.

I read reviews before buying products.

I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Reviews can help answer questions that aren't always obvious from a product description.

Is the product actually useful?

Does it work as advertised?

Is the quality decent?

Is the sizing accurate?

Would someone who actually bought it recommend it?

Those are the kinds of questions real customer reviews can answer.

That's why authentic reviews matter.

And that's why it's frustrating when legitimate customers can't participate.

I Don't Blame Amazon for Fighting Fake Reviews

To be fair, Amazon has a difficult job.

We're talking about an enormous marketplace with millions of products and huge numbers of customer interactions.

It isn't realistic to manually investigate every review.

Automation is necessary.

But automated systems aren't perfect.

Sometimes the challenge becomes finding the balance between protecting the review system and allowing legitimate customers to have a voice.

That's the part I think deserves more attention.

The Scammers Have Ruined It for Everyone

Think about it.

Someone figures out how to manipulate Amazon‘s review system.

Amazon responds by tightening the rules and increasing detection.

Eventually, legitimate customers find themselves asking:

“Why won't Amazon let me leave a review?”

That's frustrating.

The irony is that the scammers are trying to manipulate the system…

while the honest customers simply want to participate in it.

You've managed to make leaving an honest review complicated.

I Want Real Reviews  Just Like Everyone Else

At the end of the day, I don't want fake reviews.

I don't want artificially inflated ratings.

I don't want sellers paying people to say their product is amazing.

And I don't want competitors deliberately trashing products either.

I want something much simpler:

Real customers.

Real products.

Real experiences.

Real opinions.

That's what makes a review useful.

Maybe Amazon Needs to Find a Better Balance

I don't pretend to have the perfect answer.

Amazon has a massive problem to solve, and I'm sure there are plenty of things happening behind the scenes that customers never see.

But there has to be a way to aggressively fight review manipulation without making legitimate customers feel like they're being punished for someone else's bad behavior.

Because if I bought the product, used the product and simply want to tell people what I think…

I'd like to think I should be allowed to do that.

So, Amazon…

Keep fighting the scammers.

Please.

But maybe don't forget about the rest of us.

The people who simply want to leave an honest review.

Because when Amazon won't let me review anything, the last thing I want to think is:

“Thanks, scammers.” 😂
